Topic: Creative Use of the Equality Act 2010

At this meeting we discussed how the Equality Act 2010 can be used to challenge discrimination in housing, benefits and other public functions.

The Equality Act 2010 protects us from discrimination when accessing goods, services, in employment and when public bodies exercise public functions. Therefore the scope of the Equality Act is far reaching and we want to make sure we use it to its full potential.

At this meeting we looked at how the Equality Act applies to housing and how stronger service provisions can be used in some housing cases.

We also discussed how the Equality Act can be used to challenge discriminatory decisions and practice by public bodies, including when carrying out assessments and making decisions about welfare benefits. We discussed challenges and opportunities in bringing such cases.
